Why this role is significant
As a Bartender in the Arbutus Room, you help create a refined and welcoming atmosphere during evening service. With a focus on elevated, locally inspired cuisine and a thoughtfully curated beverage program, your presence at the bar sets the tone for memorable dining experiences. You craft exceptional cocktails, offer informed recommendations, and deliver service that is both polished and personable. Working closely with the front-of-house team, you maintain high standards of cleanliness and prep while contributing to the smooth, seamless flow of service each night.
A day in the life
- Prepare and serve cocktails, wine, and other beverages with accuracy, artistry, and consistency
- Offer thoughtful recommendations and pairing suggestions based on the menu and guest preferences
- Create a welcoming bar environment through attentive, personable service and confident presence
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar throughout service
- Monitor bar inventory and communicate restocking needs proactively
- Assist with glassware, garnish prep, and mise en place to ensure smooth transitions between shifts
- Complete accurate transactions using the POS system and perform cash-outs as needed
- Support the dining room team with drink service, pacing, and collaboration during busy periods
- Stay current on wine, cocktail, and menu knowledge
What we hope you’ll bring to the team
- Available to work Wednesday through Saturday evenings; open evening availability is preferred
- A minimum of one year of bartending experience, ideally in a fast-paced, guest-facing setting
- Confidence and composure behind the bar, with the ability to manage multiple drink orders while staying engaged and personable with guests
- Strong working knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, wine, and spirits, with a genuine interest in flavour, presentation, and consistency
- Wine knowledge and comfort making pairing suggestions; WSET or similar certification is an asset
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to handle guest questions, special requests, and dietary considerations with ease
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to support the front-of-house team as needed throughout service
- Pride in your workspace, with strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and mise en place
- Serving It Right certification
