Why this role matters
As Sous Chef of the Pub, you will support the Chef de Cuisine in leading the kitchen team and ensuring seamless day-to-day operations. You’ll play a key role in menu innovation, mentoring cooks and apprentices, managing costs, and fostering an atmosphere where both staff and guests feel supported and inspired.

What you'll do
  • Lead the line during busy services, ensuring pace, consistency, and quality
  • Supervise, mentor, and train cooks and apprentices, building a strong kitchen team
  • Provide creative input into menu development, seasonal specials, and event promotions
  • Uphold food safety, sanitation, and WorkSafeBC standards
  • Track food costs, portioning, and waste to support profitability targets
  • Collaborate with FOH leadership to ensure smooth service flow and strong guest experiences
  • Support planning and execution of private dining, events, and Pub buyouts
  • Step into leadership responsibility when the Chef de Cuisine is away

What you'll bring
  • Minimum 3 years of culinary experience in a high-volume kitchen
  • At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Red Seal certification or equivalent training considered an asset
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and compliance standards
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in high-volume service
  • Financial awareness, including cost control and waste management
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to coach and inspire others
  • Reliable transportation to Brentwood Bay, as public transit options are limited for evening and closing shifts
  • Open availability with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • This role offers a competitive salary of $55,000–$65,000 annually, based on experience and internal equity, with typical starting salaries ranging from $55,000–$60,000.
